Commencing in 1971 as a "Weed Schools", the event has since grown to become recognised as the premier event in New South Wales to discuss noxious weeds and related vegetation issues. The event brings together weeds experts from government, business, academic, and volunteer backgrounds to discuss past and emerging issues for the control of weeds.

The Conference venue is “The Crossing Theatre”. This purpose built convention centre and entertainment prescient is located on the bank of the Namoi River and is the cultural and social heart of the Narrabri Shire. The Shire is has long been renowned for its agricultural wealth in beef, wheat, sheep, and cotton, but is now emerging as a centre for minerals exploration (coal and natural gas).

The Narrabri Shire is “Big Country” and attendees to the conference will have the opportunity to be exposed to “Big Farming” as part of the conference’s field tour.

The 2009 Conference Program will include guest speakers, a Trade display, Field Trip and Breakfast Outdoor Expo. The Field Trip provides delegates the opportunity to view “Big Farming” and world class research facilities.

Past conferences have attracted more than 300 delegates from across Australia. The conference remains a key focal point event at which weeds specialists can exchange ideas and make new contacts. Delegates include weeds and pest species officers, representatives from government, the private sector, environmental organisations, community groups, farmers and many more.
